Riverton

Riverton is only a short distance west of Invercargill. We parked up at Colac Bay (more about Colac Bay in my next post), but then travelled back one day to have a good look around this lovely place.

This photo is looking back towards the main township.

  Mitchells Bay.

Howells Point. There were some lovely views from up here, and it was an easy climb.

Looking down, back towards the side we were parked.

And then in the other direction. The large photo is Back Beach. The middle small one is before we started the climb up, so another view of the wee bay in the foreground above.

After leaving Howells Point, we drove to Tihaka Lookout. Here we're looking across Colac Bay. We could see our rig parked across the other side of the bayone of the white dots near the water about a quarter of the way across the photo from the left.

Today the views of Stewart Island were probably the best we'd seenit was a lovely clear day.

Coming back down, again looking towards the main township of Riverton. Beyond the wharf in the foreground is the bridge over the entrance to the estuary.

Before leaving Riverton, we stopped for lunch at a lovely cafe with great views over the estuary.

  1. Wow, that picture of Stewart Island! I've never seen it so clear.
