Lake Wilkie

Lake Wilkie is a small lake just out of Papatowai, east of Invercargill, in the Catlins.

It's a short 5-10 min walk off the main road through some lovely native bush.

There are a few signs similar to this one, explaining the environment.

Wilkie Lake was formed after the last ice age and has gradually shrunk to its current sizeabout 1.7 hectares. As it is slowly filling in, it's called a "bog lake".
